Nautilus
1984
37 mm
3800/1
110000

An absolute classic of a Nautilus, the 3800 oozes class, and the famous deep blue dial with luxurious yellow gold takes this piece to another dimension. The legendary Patek Philippe Nautilus, famously inspired by the shape of a ship’s porthole, first set sail in 1976, and almost fifty years later Gérald Genta’s iconic design remains at the technical and aesthetic pinnacle of watchmaking. Only the second-ever Nautilus model after the original ref. 3700, this model 3800 is forged entirely from 18k yellow gold, Patek’s secret blend. Mid-sized at 37.5mm, it nevertheless retains the hallmark styling of Patek Philippe, with the brushed bezel contrasting beautifully with the polished case sides and pushers. Its classic, deep blue textured dial features horizontal grooves to play with light and shadow, complemented by highly-legible gold-applied hour markers with luminescent coating, for a simple but stunning watch face. The hands are original, a rarity for a piece of its age, and even rarer still, the connoisseurs will spot the accent on “Genève” on the dial, a significant collector’s detail. The date aperture is placed classically at 3 o’clock, and in true Nautilus fashion, the watch is paired with an integrated bracelet, with mirror-polished central links and fold-over clasp, and is water resistant to 100m. Powered by Patek’s in-house cal. 335SC movement, the 3800 is the epitome of pristine, modern style.

Our approach is simple: we only buy watches we would be proud to own ourselves. Every piece is selected on its individual merits, with an uncompromising focus on originality, condition, provenance and overall quality. We have no interest in filling our inventory for the sake of it; if an example doesn’t meet our expectations, we leave it behind. Whether it is an important vintage reference, a rare modern complication or an exceptional everyday piece, we search for the best examples we can find and buy only what genuinely excites us. Taste and quality come before volume, every time.

That same standard extends to authentication. Every watch we acquire is subjected to rigorous examination, with the case, dial, movement, components, serial and reference details carefully assessed for authenticity, originality and consistency with the period of manufacture. Where appropriate, provenance and accompanying documentation are scrutinised with equal care. In this business, reputation is everything, and ours is attached to every watch we sell. We would rather walk away from a watch and a deal than offer something we are not completely comfortable putting our name behind. When a watch enters our collection, it is there because we believe it deserves to be.
